What a Great Way to Start the Year!

Mike and Renee Windish selected Central IL PKD as their non-profit organization of choice to receive a $2,500 donation through America's Farmers Grow Communities.

In the Spring of 2007 Mike found out he was in stage 4 renal failure due to Polycystic Kidney Disease. In June of 2008 he was given the gift of life. A family friend took a brave step forward and became his kidney donor. Since his life saving transplant, Mike and his family have helped raise awareness of this disease as well as funds for research, in hopes that one day a cure will be found. Year after year, with the support of family and friends, they help to make up one of Peoria's largest PKD Walk teams, Cousin's for a Cure. Renee's active role as photographer has captured many memories that will forever be cherished. We would like to thank the Windish's for their ongoing generosity and support of Central Illinois Chapter of the PKD Foundation.

Changes at the PKD Foundation

The PKD Foundation welcomes new President and CEO Jackie D. Hancock, Jr. He come to us from the National Foundation for Transplants, so he is already familiar with PKD and it's devestating effects. If you would like a chance to meet him, he will be attending the the PKD National Convention in Kansas City June 20-22.

We would also like to welcome our new Chapter and Walk Coordinators, Tammie Hardrick and Laura Rossio to our Central Illinois Chapter. They are a mother and daughter team out of Joliet. Tammie has participated in the Run for PKD in the past and is excited about getting more involved. Although she does not have PKD, it has had a big impact on her family. Her mother, Laura, as well as great grandmother, grandmother, brother, and nieces have all been afflicted with this disease. We look forward to working with them on this years events! Sherry Beckemeyer will still have an active role with Central IL PKD. She is currently organizing our annual golf outing, Driving Home a Cure for PKD. Details for the event are coming soon!

Central IL PKD is dedicated to raising awareness of Polycystic Kidney Disease and providing local support to those affected by this disease.
